Holiday Lunch at the Shang Palace

AWAP just had to do something special to celebrate what our Association has so beautifully blossomed into in such a short time. And what better way to make merry than to put on our Sunday best and revel in the historic surroundings of Roland Bonaparte’s 1800’s residence, now the Shangri-La Hotel!

On the 8th of December, we all savored a dim sum lunch, filling two private rooms of the Shang Palace. Attendance for this event reached a record high of 37 lovely ladies! Here’s hoping that we started our merry-making in style and in great company!

Wishing all our members a very happy Christmas and a healthy, prosperous New Year!

Les Halles Walking Tour

Organized and led by Mona Van Opstal, our tour expert, a mix of ladies walked through the busy, narrow, and lively streets of the old Les Halles district. This area was famous through the ages for having been the site of the central Paris food market for many centuries.  Still home to a wealth of specialist food purveyors and culinary equipment stores, it is a fascinating historic neighborhood. We visited Stohrer, the oldest pastry shop in Paris, the beautiful church of St. Eustache, some very charming covered arcades (“passages“), the remains of the medieval mansion built by the Duke of Burgundy, John the Fearless, and a good number of addresses for specialist food and cooking equipment.  Thank you too to Paris Walks’ tour guide, Mary Ellen!

November Coffee Break

Thank you to Anne Valsemey for hosting and making her home available for another successful AWAP Coffee Break on the 15th of November.  The bounty of nibbles on hand included home-made prawn crackers, and the most mouth-watering moist chocolate cake, amongst other delicious treats!  Sure enough, as is often the case with AWAP ladies, there was enough to serve the crowd AND take home as well!  Miam, miam!
